Dr. Peter Le-Anh Phung

Age 83

Born September 18, 1937, in Bat Trang, Gia Lam, Vietnam; officially registered after WWII as January 1, 1938

Died due to injuries of a fall, May 11, 2021, in Punta Gorda, Florida, USA

Memorial Service for Peter was conducted by Monsignor James M. Donnelly on                                                                       
May 15, 2021                                                                                 
at the Johnson-Taylor Funeral Home, 1515 Tamiami Trail, Punta Gorda,
Florida, USA                                                                             
Cremation also took place at the same location.                                                                          

Preceded Peter in death include his father, Mr. Thanh Van Phung, 102, in 2019; his mother, Mrs. Phong Thi Le, 102, in 2020; his brother-in-law, George Y. Lou,  84, in 2018; and his second wife, Patricia Botero Phung, 65, in 2014.

Peter is survived by his two sons, Reyanh Phung and Ivanh Phung of his first marriage; and by his third son, Andrew Phung of his second marriage. He is also survived by daughter-in-law, Heather; and grandchildren Emmanuel and Milanii, who are Ivanh’s family.

Peter is also survived by his three brothers: Doan, An and Dung and their families; and by seven sisters: Thuy, Son, Hoa, Thuan, Lien, Minh and Lan and their families.

In his lifetime Peter worked in teaching and research. He earned a PhD degree in Biochemistry from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, and a Master’s degree in Food Technology from the University of Maryland. In the twenty years prior to his death, he worked mostly for his own investments.

Peter loved fishing, hunting, boating and growing tropical fruit trees. He identifies himself with the Filipino communities and has several Filipino friends with whom he felt comfortable as family.
