Kermit L. Thompson

October 24, 1954 — January 28, 2022

Kermit Lee Thompson, age 67, resident of Punta Gorda, FL and Downing, WI, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes, peacefully in his sleep, in his home in Florida on Friday, January 28th, 2022.

Kermit Thompson was born on October 24th, 1954 in Viroqua, WI. He graduated high school in Viroqua and worked a few odds and ends jobs until, at the age of 19, he landed a job at Swiss Miss (Conagra) in Menomonie WI. He then married his now ex-wife- Renee Hurtgen, and they had 2 children, Katie & Kala. After 7 years of marriage, Kermit & Renee were divorced yet remained good friends.

He continued to work at Swiss Miss, where he eventually retired at the age of 55. He wanted to make the best of his retirement by purchasing a place in Punta Gorda, FL. It was there that he met his fiancÈ- Sherry Welch, and proposed on December 28th. They wanted to be able to take care of each other as they aged, however, their time was cut short due to his passing.

Some of his favorite hobbies included gardening, going to thrift- sales, shopping for antiques, talking on the phone, and crossword puzzles. He certainly had a green thumb and was very proud of his hastas and little jungle behind his house in FL. He enjoyed having friends and neighbors over for coffee every morning. Anyone was welcome at any time, and he loved the company.

There was never a dull moment with Kermit. He was typically the life of the party, smiling and joking, no matter where he went. He never failed to say something inappropriate, or pinch someone's behindÖ.but he always got away with it. Kermit was always smiling & joking. He loved his family and friends with all of his heart and was always there to help when anyone was in need.

Kermit was loved by so many people. The world will never be the same without his love and generosity towards others. He knew so many people and always did the best he could to brighten someone's day. His daughters and grandchildren were everything to him, and he let everyone else know that.

Kermit Is survived by Daughters: Katie (Scott) Hoffman & Kala (Valerie) Thompson, 5 grandchildren: Asher, Deelia, Harper & Nolan Hoffman and Daxton Thompson, his fiancÈ: Sherry Welch and her 3 daughters- Shannon, Carrie & Mandy Welch, his sister- Nita (Thompson) Ankney, and so many wonderful friends & family.

He is preceded in death by his parents- Kenneth and Fern (Weber) Thompson, brothers- Al & Carl Thompson, sister- Karen (Thompson) Nelson, and many other friends and relatives.

Services are yet to be announced. There will be a celebration of life in both Punta Gorda, FL and Menomonie, WI. These are still to be determined as of yet, but hoping for the FL services to be held in April 2022 and services in WI early summer of 2022. Services will be posted as soon as they are set in stone.
