James R. Lahrman

May 10, 1939 — July 1, 2021

James Raymond Lahrman passed away peacefully in his daughter's home in Fenton, Missouri on the morning of July 1st, 2021 with his family all around. Jim, as he is known to his friends, lost a 2 year battle with bone cancer at the age of 82.

He was born in Covington Kentucky on May 10, 1939, to Ruth “Waldeck” Lahrman and Raymond Lahrman where he was the middle child with an older sister Maxine and a younger sister Ruthann. His family moved to Flushing, New York in the early 1940s and Jim graduated high school from Bishop Loughlin in Brooklyn and went on to receive an engineering degree from New York University. He worked for the city of New York for 33 years and retired as the Chief Engineer for the city.

He met the love of his life Barbara Ackerman while in high school and they were married for 55 years until Barbara’s passing in November of 2016. Jim and Barbara moved to Kings Park, New York where they raised three children Jimmy, Daniel, and Melanie. They were blessed with 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

They later retired to Punta Gorda, Florida where Jim pursued his hobbies of cooking and singing. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he volunteered with the St. Vincent de Paul Society and served with the Knights of Columbus having been elected Grand Knight. Although Jim and Barbara enjoyed traveling and seeking new adventures, they treasured their friendships with the many good people with who they surrounded themselves within Punta Gorda. They were blessed to be a part of the community.
