Davy Wade Bennett Sr, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away June 4, 2022, with his family by his side. The family has truly lost a wonderful human being.

Davy was born June 1, 1939, in Indianola, Mississippi, to Lige and Gladys Bennett. He enlisted in the United States Army on August 22, 1959, and proudly served his country in Vietnam, South Korea, Germany, and stateside for 25 years. Davy rose to the highest enlisted rank achievable, Sergeant Major. After his military retirement, Davy worked for the United States Postal Service for 18 years.

He was a proud member of the VFW, American Legion and was a 32nd-degree Mason.

Davy married Margaret Ellen Byrd, his true love, on August 25, 1962, and they enjoyed an amazing 59 years together. His passions were outdoor activities including fishing, hunting, and camping. Davy enjoyed westerns and military movies, but most importantly, Davy loved devoting his time to his family, especially his grandchildren whom he adored. There was never a time he wasn't there for his family and in return, he was loved immensely.

Those who will miss Davy the most include his wife, Margaret, his son Davy Wade Bennett Jr, his daughter, Pamela Dawn Bennett Johnson and her husband Robert, his granddaughter Margaret Evangeline Desjardins, his grandsons, Thomas Wade Desjardins and Connor Jacob Goodfriend, and a host of other family members including his sisters in law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, and many friends over the course of his lifetime. Davy was preceded in death by his parents, Lige and Gladys Bennett and his older brother William.

A private service to celebrate Davy's life will be held at the Sarasota National Cemetery. The world is truly a better place for Davy Bennett having been in it. A husband, a father, a grandfather too, this is his legacy. He will be forever loved and deeply missed.
