Bettye L. Gibson

January 1, 1931 — November 22, 2021

Bettye Louise Gibson died peacefully on November 22, 2021, in Port Charlotte, Florida. Born on January 1, 1931- she was the first baby of 1931 in Miami, Florida. She was the daughter of George and Sayde (Compton) Guerand.

Bettye married the love of her life - Jim Gibson in 1950. He was employed by IBM, which was often referred to as "I've Been Moved". Bettye was the perfect partner and mother. She could pack up a household and oversee a move; as well as making a new house in a new city and state a happy home…over and over. When Jim retired in 1988, he kept his promise to Bettye and they moved back to Florida - Port Charlotte in 1988.

Bettye was preceded in death by her husband Jim in 2008. She is survived and will be greatly missed by daughter Donna Fry (Ken) - Hutchinson, KS; son Jimmy Gibson - of the home; son Ralph Gibson (Shirley) - Goose Creek, SC; granddaughter Beth Gibson - of the home. She is also survived by her other grandchildren - Kim Quarles (daughter Madison); Patricia Putnam (Chris) (their children Joshua, Savannah, Brady); Matthew Larrew (Candase) (their daughters Emily, Rachel, Madison).

Through the years, Bettye was involved with her church, Peace River Baptist. She loved boating and shelling when Jim was alive. She enjoyed cooking, entertaining, crafts, and scrapbooking. Bettye's legacy lives on through her love of the Lord and her beloved family and friends. Her love was evident by the constant smile on her face. Her favorite saying was "I woke up this morning and thanked God for giving me another day!"
