Arlene L. Salisbury

August 5, 1920 — May 7, 2020

Arlene Leaf Salisbury, 99, of Punta Gorda, FL, and formerly of East Tawas, MI passed away on Thursday, May 07, 2020.  She was born on August 5, 1920, in Flint, MI to Ernest and Pearl Leaf (nee Teachout).   

Arlene attended Flint schools until 1930 before moving to Tawas and graduating in 1938.  She later earned her bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University in 1943.  Arlene married Beryl Turner Salisbury on February 27, 1944, at the Christ Episcopal Church in East Tawas. She managed her husband’s Advertising business in Detroit, MI, and later became the owner of the Oscoda Ben Franklin and the Booknook in East Tawas until she sold both and retired in 1980. 

Arlene enjoyed collecting information about current events and self-improvement, reading, volunteering and she was a dog lover.  She belonged to the Kappa Delta Sorority International – Diamond Circle, Animal Humanitarians (Iosco County Humane Society), Quota Club International, Iosco County Historical Society, St. Joseph Hospital Volunteers, Easter Seal Volunteer, Tawas Area Presbyterian Church and the Iosco County Senior Center. 

Arlene is survived by her daughter, Anne Catherine (Jon Ames) Obermeyer of Punta Gorda, FL; 3 granddaughters, Jessica (Robert) Archer, Sarah Obermeyer, Hannah Obermeyer; 2 great-grandsons, Tyler (Rebecca) Buckingham, Armon Archer; 2 great-granddaughters, Haleigh (Dillon) Roberts, Elmise Archer, and sister-in-law Beverly (Salisbury) Tyler.  She was preceded in death by her father Ernest A. (1952), mother Pearl M. (1978), and husband Beryl (2007).   

Place of interment will be the Greenwood Cemetery in East Tawas, MI.  Memorials may be directed to Kelby’s Kids, P.O. Box 57, Reed City, MI 49677-0057 (kelbyskids.org, which is a non-profit medical mission to Haiti).
