Walter Gene Scofield

Walter Gene Scofield, 72, of Punta Gorda passed away February 17, 2009 at home with his loving family while under the care of Tidewell Hospice. He was born in Ferndale, Michigan on August 23, 1936 to Noble & Gladys Scofield. Walt was a builder by trade having learned the construction business from his father as a teenager and went on to become a State Certified Building Contractor and part owner of CLM Construction of Michigan. In 1975 he moved with his wife and family to Florida to serve as Vice President of ERB Building Systems, the exclusive builder of residential properties for General Development Corporation statewide. Over the years Walt also worked for Five Star Homes, was owner/builder for Noble Homes and served as consultant to numerous construction companies in Florida. In 2004 Walt formed RJW Builders with his son's performing hurricane reconstruction and building homes in Port St Lucie and Port Charlotte Florida. Walt's hobbies and interests included golf, woodworking, gardening and Bible study. He was humbled to have served as Elder and Sunday School teacher to adults, children and youth for over 25 years Walt will be dearly missed by his wife of 53 years, Ellejeanne, whom he married on August 12, 1955 and their children, Raymond (Suzy) of Port St Lucie, Fl, Steven (Stephanie) of Floral City, Fl, Beverly (John) Hayden of Port St Lucie, Fl, and Connie (Johnny) Daniels of Port Charlotte, Fl. Walt was Grandpa to 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; sister, Marjorie (Robert) Clingan, numerous nieces and nephews, who all reside and a minister in Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bobby Scofield. A celebration of life will be held 10:00 to 1:00 pm, Friday, February 20, 2009 at New Vision Fellowship Free Methodist Church, 20271 Tappan Zee Drive, Port Charlotte.
