Virginia M. Merriman

Virginia May Merriman, 87, of Punta Gorda passed away August 23, 2009. She was born May 20, 1922 in Betsy Lane, KY. Virginia came to this area in 1985 from Columbus, OH where she was a lifelong member of Wonderland Community Church. She will be remembered as a quiet, loving, kind and non-judgmental woman who was an avid reader and enjoyed her independence, but loved being involved in the lives of her family. Virginia will be greatly missed by her daughter, Connie (John) Souder of North Port; son, Terry (Becky) Merriman of Port Charlotte; daughter-in-law, Penny (Skip) Smith of Port Charlotte; sisters, Mary Cooper, Ruth Jacob, and Vickie Price; grandchildren, Tracy, Wendi, Jason, Carla, Scott, Jodi, and Zachary; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Edward Merriman, and son, Chuck Merriman. The family will receive friends 5-8 pm Wednesday, August 26 at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services. The service in celebration of Virginia' life will be at 11 am Thursday, August 27, 2009 at Peace River Baptist Church in Punta Gorda. Burial will be at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens.
