Roscoe Thompson

Roscoe Thompson, 95, of Port Charlotte, Fla., and formerly of Dayton, Ohio, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 3, 2007, in Port Charlotte. He was born Sept. 20, 1911, in Bradford, Ohio, to Bessie (Linder) and William Thompson. Mr. Thompson was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army as a medic during World War II from 1942 to 1945. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Campaign Service Medal and The European Africian-Eastern Service Medal with five Bronze Stars. Mr. Thompson retired from General Motors Corp.‹Delco Moraine division, in Dayton, Ohio, and moved to Port Charlotte in 1991. He is survived by his daughters, DeMaris (Dede Clements) Stuart and her husband, Harry Stuart of Deep Creek, Fla., and Suzanne Thompson of Seattle, Wash.; grandsons, Sean Hillard of Port Charlotte, and Franklin Sussman and granddaughter, Annabelle Sussman, both of Seattle; his sister, Ruby Beam of Dayton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jewell (nee Fliney) Thompson in 1994. Viewing will be from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2007, at Tobias Funeral Home, 648 Watervliet Ave., Dayton, followed by the graveside service at 1:30 p.m. at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery, 8135 N. Dixie Drive., Dayton.
