Raymond D. Hoekstra

Raymond D. Hoekstra, 89, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away on January 19, 2022. He was born on July 22, 1932, to Andrew and Kate Hoekstra in Blue Island, IL. Raymond honorably served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. He was a truck driver early in his career and later was a business owner for 45 years, retiring at the age of 80 in 2012.

Raymond was a dedicated father and husband of 63 years to his beloved Beatrice. He loved working in his garden, playing cards and was an avid fisherman. He was hardworking, generous, and extremely fast to lend a hand whenever needed. He supported many faith-based ministries. Raymond dearly loved his family and requested that the family gather together at least one night each week, and sometimes even two or three. The family upheld their tradition, whenever possible, for 65 years.

Raymond will be deeply missed by his daughter Beverly (Craig) Gish; sons Raymond (Sandra) Hoekstra Jr. and Donald Hoekstra; sisters Ellen Kooyenga, Ceil Fennema, Kay Yunker, and Joan VanBeveren, 4 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Kate, his wife Beatrice, brother Neil, and sisters Ellen and Ceil.
