Oscar J. Dorr

Oscar Dorr, 81, of Punta Gorda passed away November 3, 2008. He was the son of August J and Mary Edna (Shepherd) Dorr, born July 1, 1927 in Madison, GA. Oscar served first in the US Army Air Corps, then the Navy where he served as a flight simulator instructor. After his discharge, he worked for North American Aviation and later Rockwell International as a logistical field service representative. After living in Orlando for 20 years, Oscar and his wife, Lorra, moved to Punta Gorda in 2004, not long before Hurricane Charley hit. Oscar quickly became involved in the community, attending City Council meetings and photographing awards presentations and noteworthy occasions. He was an active member of St James Episcopal Church and also enjoyed his time of service as a member of the Punta Gorda Kiwanis and championed several causes including Guardian ad Litem. Another of his loves was being a photo-journalist for the Charlotte-Sun. Oscar will be remembered for his bright smile and positive attitude. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 44 years, Lorra; son, Greg Dorr of Denver, CO; daughter, Diane (Tom) Johnson of Kemah, TX ; grandchildren, Zachary and Sarah Johnson, both of Kemah, TX; and many whom he counted as friends in the community. A memorial service in celebration of Oscar's life will be at 11:00 am Saturday, November 15, 2008 at St. James Episcopal Church with Fr. Cesar Olivero officiating.
