Marie A. Mathias

Marie Ann Mathias, 91, of Sarasota, FL passed away on November 4, 2019. She was born on June 1, 1928, to Modest and Anna DeSmet in Detroit, MI.
Marie grew up in Detroit, where she married the love of her life, John, a World War II veteran. They moved to Gaylord MI. and were married for 67 years, sharing countless adventures together. Marie was a member of the New Apostolic Church for several years and found much enjoyment singing in the choir. She loved sharing in fellowship with other members and baking to her heart’s desire. Throughout life Marie enjoyed traveling, camping the great outdoors, taking nice walks and water aerobics. She will be remembered for her strong-willed and fiercely independent personality, love of organization, and kindness towards others.
Marie will be deeply missed by her sons Ralph (Chris) and Gary (Linda) Mathias; sister Elsie (Carl) Rettberg; niece Dawn Cornell; nephews Greg and Jeff Rettberg; grandchildren Brian, Tamara, Kevin, Jason, and Raquel; many great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband John and parents.
