John J. Apple

John J. Apple, 86, of Punta Gorda passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2009. He was born January 28, 1923 in St. Paris, Ohio. John graduated from Bowling Green State University and Ohio State University. He was a fighter and test pilot in the United States Air Force where he served with honor, during World War II and Vietnam. John retired as a colonel after completing his career as Dean of the Air Force Institute of Technology and moved to Punta Gorda in 1979. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. John will be greatly missed by his sons, John (Linda), Gary and Craig all of Port Charlotte; grandchildren, Andrea, John, Beth and Gary along with many friends and family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty. A memorial service will be held at later date with burial at Arlington National Cemetery.
