John E. Tungate

John Edward Tungate, 81, of Port Charlotte passed away June 18, 2008. He was the son of Jack and Beulah Tungate, born August 26, 1926 in Piner, KY. John served in the US Navy on the USS Effingham and was wounded in the Battle of Okinawa; he was honorably discharged in November 1945. He was employed as a salesman. John was an active member of First Baptist Church of Charlotte Harbor, and served as deacon for Decoursey Baptist Church in Covington, KY. He loved to fish and enjoyed the beach. John will be greatly missed by his wife of 19 years, Phyllis; son, Dennis (Jo) Tungate of San Francisco, CA; daughter, Connie (John) Schoonover of Fort Lauderdale, FL; brothers, Bill, Tommy, Owen, and Harry Marshall; sisters, Faye and Dorothy; two grandsons; three step-children; and four step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles. A memorial service will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at First Baptist Church of Charlotte Harbor.
