James A. Thompson, Sr.

Rev. James A. Thompson, Sr., 75, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014. He was the son of Vera (nee Powell) and John Thompson, Sr., born on September 5, 1938 in Ottumwa, IA. He served in the United States Air Force for 2 years and was a United Methodist Pastor for 32 years serving various communities throughout central Illinois and retiring in 2001. He and his wife moved to Florida in December 2001. James was a avid golfer and fisherman and will be missed by the Waffle House staff where he was a faithful and daily patron. James will be greatly missed by his wife Peggy; brother, Tom; children, Jim Jr. (Angel), Ron (Cindy) and Carrie; 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. A private service was held.
