James A. Jett

August 8, 1935 — December 31, 2023

James Albert Jett, of Port Charlotte, FL, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on December 31, 2023, in the presence of his loving family.


He was born in Ashland, Alabama on August 8, 1935, to the late King Albert Jett and Ida Mae Bearden. At the age of nineteen, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served his country from 1955-1978 earning the rank of Master Sergeant. Throughout his distinguished military career, he had the privilege of serving at various military bases including: Osan (Korea); Kadena (Japan); Dobbins (GA); Warner Robins (GA); MacDill (FL); Davis-Monthan (AZ); Sheppard (TX); and Shaw (SC). His dedication and commitment to his duty were evident as he also served in Vietnam.


After retiring from military service, he worked for Lockheed Martin Corporation, in Marietta, Georgia. In addition to spending time with his family and friends, he also enjoyed boating and was a member of the Naval Air Station Atlanta Yacht Club. He was an avid reader enjoying military history and western genres.


He was preceded in death by Jimmy Bearden (brother) and Amy Leigh Jett (granddaughter). He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Ann Tinsley Jett, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage, siblings, Donald Jett (Shirley), Brenda Schlomer (Tim), and Johnny Mack Bearden (Darlene).


His legacy lives on through his two children: Gary Lee Jett (Melinda) and Cindy Jett Watson (David), grandchildren: Andrew Clayton Jett, Alejandra Maria Jett, and great granddaughter: Katherine Geraldine Stanga.


James, also known as Granddaddy Jim, will be remembered for his unconditional love and support for his family, his kindness, and sense of humor. He leaves behind many cherished memories.


Services will be held at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to tunnels to towers (t2t.org) or tidewellfoundation.org (please designate the Port Charlotte area).
