Helena (Nuala) N. Mocny, 78, of Punta Gorda, Florida died peacefully on October 2nd at home with the care of hospice and her family, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in County Cork, Ireland, Nuala attended St. Vincent’s Convent School where she stood out as a vocalist and performer throughout her childhood.

In 1960, Nuala immigrated to South Boston, Massachusetts, where she was employed by RCA as a Technician.  Nuala went on to become a US Citizen in November of 1966 and settled in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, where she raised her family.

Nuala was a hard worker her whole life, working several jobs.  She was an associate at Apex Department Store for many years and worked as a manager for the Beef Hearth in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. She finished her work career with the City of Pawtucket, working in the Board of Canvassers Office.

Nuala retired in 1990, moving to Port Charlotte, Florida, where she donated her time to several charitable organizations.  Most notably, Meals on Wheels, where she delivered meals and worked in the office servicing the Port Charlotte/Punta Gorda area for 14 years.

Nuala had many hobbies which included singing, cooking, cruising, and traveling, but most of all, she enjoyed being with her family.

Nuala is survived by her husband of 21 years, Richard C. Mocny; her daughter Joann Weiner and her husband, Mark T. Weiner of Barrington, Rhode Island; and a son, Patrick A. Costa and his wife, Keri Lee Costa of Attleboro, Massachusetts. She was preceded in death by her son, Frank V. Costa, Jr.

Nuala also leaves two sisters, Mary Connolly of County Cork, Ireland and Elizabeth Costello of Tampa, Florida; and her brother Harry Connolly, also of County Cork, Ireland.  She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Henry M. Connolly, and his wife Lillian Connolly (Griffin); a brother George Connolly; and her sisters Catherine Kelly and Ann Dermody.

Nuala leaves six grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.  Samantha Bonanno, Benjamin and Hannah Weiner, and Ashley Nicole, Sophia, and Isabella Costa; one great-grandchild Declan Costa.  She also leaves several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly as well.

A memorial mass will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, October 14th, at The Sacred Heart Church, in Punta Gorda, Florida. Family and friends are invited to attend. A Celebration of Life and burial service will take place in Rhode Island, to be announced at a later date.
