Francis F. Baker

Francis F. Baker, 93, of Port Charlotte passed away September 28, 2007. He was born March 25, 1914 in Buffalo, New York to Francis and Geraldine (Howard) Baker. Francis graduated from Hamilton College in Clinton, New York in 1937. In 1936 he won the Bronze medal as a member of the US Olympic Hockey Team. In 1941 he graduated University of Rochester School of Medicine then served in the Army Air Force during WWII in Europe. Francis was the first board certified surgeon in Plattsburgh, New York and was the only orthopedic surgeon for 25 years in that community. He moved from Gainesville, FL to Port Charlotte in 2000. Francis will be greatly missed by his wife of 39 years, Ruth Vallee Baker; sister Geraldine Baker Masters of Tucson, AZ; daughter Geraldine Baker Hood of Grayling, MI; four granddaughters; several nieces and nephews along with his beloved Norwich Terrier Abigail. No services are planned at this time. Memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care, 1144 Veronica Street, Port Charlotte, FL 33952.
