Douglas R. "Doug" Burns, 66, of Punta Gorda, FL, formerly of Bristol, CT passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at his home. He was born January 1, 1949 in Bristol, CT. Doug was employed at The Bristol Brass, Pratt & Whitney Machine Tool, Fanuc and retired from The Robert E. Morris Company after 19 plus years in September of 2013. He enjoyed fishing, long rides on his Harley, good food, good music and was an avid fan of the NY Yankees and the Washington Redskins. He leaves behind many good friends and closed family members. Doug will be greatly missed by his wife, Joanne; children, Kristin (John) Goodwin; Colleen Burns and her boyfriend Peter Brady; step-son, Danal Hein; grandchildren, Jessica and Taylor Goodwin, Jessica Kokiel and great-grandson, Vincent Gavin III; parents, Richard and Dorothy Burns; sisters; Debbie (Randy) Godfrey and their children, Jacob and Sarah, Diana (Jeffrey) Draves and their son, Andrew. He was preceded in death by former wife, Gail Laurendeau Burns. A funeral mass to celebrate Doug's life will be held at 11am, Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Punta Gorda, FL.
