Douglas C. Skelly

Douglas C. Skelly, 65, of Port Charlotte, FL, passed away on February 12, 2022. He was born on February 6, 1957, to Lewis and Mary Skelly in Canton, OH. Doug attended Eastern Kentucky University, graduating with a Bachelors in Criminology and Corrections in 1979. He relocated to Florida in 1988 from his hometown of Canton where he worked as a Probation Officer for the State of Florida, retiring with over 40 years of service. Doug was a Firearms Instructor and Range Master, who often enjoyed shooting at the gun range.

Doug was a passionate golfer and found great delight in taking golfing trips. He also enjoyed fishing, spending time near the water, and was a huge Ohio State Buckeye Fan. Doug was an avid foodie and loved trying new restaurants. He was however a creature of habit and would often order the same meal, just at a new place. He was known as “The Grill Master” by all and adored spending time with his friends and family.

Doug will be deeply missed by his wife of 42 years, Michele Skelly; daughter Ashley Skelly; son Joshua (Alisyn) Skelly; grandson Otto Skelly; and his sister LuAnn “Poovie” Bryant. He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in Doug’s name to the Animal Welfare League of Charlotte County or the Florida Department of Corrections Employee Assistance Program.
