Darlene (Hornak) S. Warth

August 26, 1941 — February 15, 2024

Darlene (Hornak) Skiby Warth, age 82, died on 15 February 2024 in Arcadia, Florida. She was born in a suburb of Chicago in 1941, lived in Chillicothe and Zanesville, Ohio, and moved to Port Charlotte, Florida in 1998.

Darlene is survived by her children Laura Somerville (Bob) and Jeffrey Skiby (Erling); her stepchildren Paul Warth (Mary), Mark Warth (Cheryl) and Matt Warth (Kristen); grandchildren James Somerville, John Somerville, Allison Warth, Benjamin Warth, Carly Warth, Eva Warth, Michael Warth (Danielle), and great-grandchild Anthony Warth.

Darlene was preceded in death by her first husband Edward J. Skiby, and then by her second husband Dr. Rev. Donald E. Warth.

Darlene held many types of jobs and titles throughout her life, but perhaps she was proudest to be ‘mom’. Not only to her children, but a ‘mom’ to the friends of her children, a ‘mom’ to the students at the community college where she worked, a ‘mom’ to younger colleagues – maybe not in a motherly way, but in a way that says ‘I hear you and see you; you matter’.

Later in life, Darlene shared a philosophy of life: ’get up, dress up, show up’. She showed up to church, for her family, for her friends, for the ladies she lunched with, and always for her children.

We will remember Darlene for having her opinion, wanting to share a laugh, and for giving more than receiving.

Darlene’s life will be celebrated at the First Presbyterian Church Port Charlotte, 2230 Hariet Street, Port Charlotte, Florida, on 22 March 2024, 10:00 am. First Presbyterian Church Port Charlotte (FPCPC) shares a campus with Rock Calvary Chapel. FPCPC can be found in the building formerly known as MacDonald Hall, next to the main sanctuary on campus.
