Dale A. Evans

January 7, 1947 — March 8, 2022

Evans, Dale Alan of St. Simons Island, GA, age75, died on March 8, 2022, after a short battle with cancer. He died at the home of his daughter Deanna in Punta Gorda, FL.

Dale was born January 7, 1947, at Hurley Hospital in Flint, Michigan, the son of Leo and Mildred (Woodbeck) Evans.

Dale graduated from Kearsley High School in 1965 and after briefly working for his father on a Flint Journal delivery route, he proudly followed a family tradition and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps., where he served until June 1970. His service included 13 months of active duty in Vietnam.

After his military service, Dale returned to Flint to join his parents selling real estate. He then attended the University of Michigan – Flint and graduated in 1977 with a degree in Political Science. Continuing his public service, Dale was elected to the Genesee County Board of Commissioners where he served from 1980-1982 and was Chairman of the Board from April 1981 – December 1982.

Dale’s love for politics, elections and public service was beyond compare. He spent time working in both the Michigan House of Representatives and on the Michigan State Senate Democratic staff. He also worked on many local and national campaigns. He was a vote-counter extraordinaire.

After a move to Washington, DC he continued this love by working as a political consultant for various causes and candidates.

In 2009, Dale moved to Frankfort, MI whereas the owner of the Bayview Grille, he lived out his dream of owning a restaurant. After selling the restaurant in 2017 Dale moved south and eventually settled in his happy place, St. Simons Island, GA.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Larry and Ronald, and his nephew Stephen Evans.

Surviving is his children Deanna Heishman (Larry), Matthew, Jerrekia and Anthony Evans, their mother Jill M. McShane and the light of his life his grandson Sebastian Evans. Also, sister Jayne (David) Harasim, Sisters-In-Law Linda, and Mary Ellen Evans. He also leaves behind nephews, a niece, and their children.

Dale will be remembered for his passion for U of M football, his love for his family and friends, and his unwavering commitment to justice, fairness, and equality for all.
