Charles G. Freund

Charles George Freund, 83, of Punta Gorda passed away peacefully on February 6, 2008. Born on October 2, 1925 in New York City to Anne Mattmuller and Albert Freund. Married to the late Patricia Ann Freund for 55 years. He was a steamfitter and a member of Steamfitters Union 638. He will always be remembered as a wonderful gardener and a lover of the sea and outdoors a passion he shared with all of his children and grandchildren. He was a wonderful craftsman with a generous sunny spirit. During his retirement years he spent hours building intricate wooden boats which will serve as a reminder of his artful imagination and love of the sea. He will be greatly missed by his children: Thomas Freund (deceased), Kathy Fredrickson of Hansville, Washington, Karen Gregorius of E. Northport, NY, Elizabeth Zmirak of E. Northport, NY and Timmy Freund of E. Islip, NY. He is also survived by his adorable nine grandchildren, Jessica, Thea, Christian, Danielle, Zachary, Olivia, Benjamin, Justin and Natalie. A mass and celebration of Charles's life will be held at Sacred Heart Church, North Merrick, Long Island, NY. The family requests memorial donations to be made to TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, 1144 Veronica Street, Port Charlotte, FL 33952. As a husband, father, grandfather and friend, he graced us all with the legacy that love is all that is necessary in life.
