Carole S. Johnston

Carole Sue Johnston, 63, of Port Charlotte, Florida fought valiantly and succumbed to cancer on Monday, August 3rd, 2020 with her loving children by her bedside.  

Born October 15th, 1956 in Nyack New York, Carole was the only daughter of the late Ines and Joseph Johnston. She grew up in Rockland County New York and after graduating high school received degrees from the following: Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, State University of New York at Oneonta, The University of South Florida in Tampa and Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida. To say Carole loved learning is an understatement! 

While Carole worked at varied positions during her lifetime, her last assignment as Principal at Kingsway Elementary was her favorite. She loved the children, their families, and her staff and went to work with a smile on her face each day. She was an advocate of the Girls on the Run program at Kingsway and even lent her time to coach a few seasons. 

In keeping with her love of children, Carole volunteered her time to the Charlotte Warrior Football program as a cheer coach and later Cheer Director. Even after her own children had left the program, Carole continued to support with her time and energy. Lately, she was a member of the DC3 church community and volunteered with their children’s nursery program. 

Carole leaves behind her two beautiful daughters Jenna and Jordan Whiting, her handsome son William (Billy) Elsner, GiGi’s favorite grandson Will Sylver, and many, many friends. 

A memorial service to honor Carole’s life of service, learning, and love will be held on August 14th, 2020 at 6:30 pm at Laishley Park by the stage. Her children request that you bring your own seating, and wear bright colors so Carole can see us and practice all social distancing protocols.
