Byron C. Velvick

June 15, 1940 — June 21, 2022

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Byron Charles Velvick of Punta Gorda on June 21, 2022, at the age of 82. Byron will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife of 36 years, Wendy; his children Byron Paul and Jamal; his grandchildren, Allesandra and Kamber; and countless friends, including his precious dog, Joy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ethel May, his sisters, Dorina and Carol, and his twin brother, Bruce.

Byron was originally from Berkley, Michigan. After serving in the Army from 1958 to 1961, he worked as a superintendent for General Motors for many years. He was an avid salmon fisherman, well-skilled at the helm of a boat, and had earned his captain’s license in 1995. He was a voracious reader, and a lover of music, his three favorite genres being jazz, country, and rock. Byron also loved playing and following golf, and had a keen interest in Corvettes, owning several over the years. He will be remembered for his kind and generous nature, his willingness to help others, and his giant heart. Byron had the ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. His infectious laugh and wicked sense of humor earned him many lifelong friends who will dearly miss him.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a future date.
