Betty Mae Trussell

Betty Mae Trussell, 94, of Port Charlotte, FL passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023. She was born on September 7, 1929, in Mt. Pleasant, MI to Gordon and Helen Wheeler. She moved to Port Charlotte in 1980.


Betty was a licensed practical nurse, retiring in 1965. She truly was an artist in her own right, extremely talented, teaching China painting at the Cultural Center of Punta Gorda for many years. Also known as the “doll doctor” Betty restored many broken dolls and could do a wonderful job at patching them up. She was a member of the Family Church PC, China Painter Club of Punta Gorda a charter member of the Port Charlotte Doll Club, UFDC, also Venice UFDC Doll Club.


Betty will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 76 years, Roy A. Trussell; daughter Patricia (Lance) Witte, sons Roy D. (Sasha), Douglas N. (Kathy), and Paul Trussell; brothers Roland (Janet) and Ronald Wheeler; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers William, Randy, and Roger Wheeler; sister Violet Harris; grandson Scott L. Witte and granddaughter Joy D. Moravec.


Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30am on October 21, 2023 at the Family Church PC, 20035 Quesada Ave, Port Charlotte, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the church.
