Bertha M. Rhodes

Bertha M. Rhodes was the daughter of Lex and Ethel (Jones) Scott, born December 25, 1929 in Murray, Kentucky. She came to Port Charlotte, FLorida in 2002 from Lapeer, Michigan. Bertha will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was very generous with her time and material wealth for anyone in need; she was a child of God and looked forward to being with her Lord. She totally enjoyed spending her summers in Michigan with her husband, relatives and friends. Having dinner at her home was a total joy; she loved playing with Katee the dog and sneaking her treats. Bertha's family was a great source of pride and she was huge support to her children. She was so proud when her husband, Lowell, learned to fly. She has left behind a way of life that set an example for all. Bertha passed away in Port Charlotte on June 6, 2009 at the age of 79, and will be greatly missed by her husband of 40 years, Lowell Rhodes; daughters, Yvonne Cochell, Sheila Burton, Leta Jones, and Judy Rhodes; sons, Michael Burton and Mike Rhodes; brothers, Troy & Prentiss Scott; sisters: Wilma & Dovie Douglas, Nelda Scott, Nettie Scott; 18 Grandchildren and 22 Great Grand Children; and as a special aunt to her nieces and nephews. A Memorial will be held late July in Lake Orion, Michigan. Burial will be at the Sarasota National Cemetery.
